Joan is currently a software developer intern, developing the Sustainable Watershed Integrated Management platform, sponsored by Mitacs, IBM, and the University of Calgary. She also works part-time as an IT support personnel for Elections Alberta. She earned a BSc in Mathematics and Computer Science from Maseno University-Kenya and an MSc Degree in Mathematical Sciences from AIMS Rwanda in 2018. She later joined the University of Calgary in Canada as a visiting student for six months, after which she was admitted for an MSc degree from the University of Calgary supervised by Dr. Rei Safavi-Naini and Dr. Barry Sanders. For her MSc graduate thesis project, she developed an Android mobile app which is a cryptographic application that secures a cryptocurrency wallet’s private key. This was a solution to the security vulnerability of the private key being accessed by unauthorized persons who may steal the cryptocurrency coins in the wallet. Joan was a visiting researcher at QLA, where she worked collaboratively with Nehad Mabrouk in quantum teleportation under the supervision of Prof. Barry Sanders.
