QLA Postdoctoral Fellowships in Algebra & Topological Quantum Computing

Position Overview

Applications are invited for the QLA Postdoctoral Fellowship commencing from July 1, 2024. This is a one-year fellowship, with possible renewal for another year, at Quantum Leap Africa (QLA) at the African Institute for Mathematical Sciences Research and Innovation Centre (AIMS-RIC) in Kigali Rwanda.

The fellowship is flexible and independent, allowing young researchers to freely explore while drawing on expert QLA faculty mentors and international collaborators. The Algebra and Topological Quantum Computing covers areas from theoretical foundations to quantum machine learning. Candidates must aim for substantial advancement in a particular area.

Key responsibilities

The Fellow will produce independent and original research in Topological Quantum Computing at QLA, submit publications to refereed journals, and help with teaching and administration. The post holder will be expected to undertake a self-directed program of research and scholarship, play a role in the national and international research community and, without obligation, but in accord with their career development goals, may be engaged with teaching students.

Successful candidates will each benefit from financial support of up to USD 30 000 – USD 36 000 per annum. Funding is also available for conferences and international scientific events. The term can be renewed based on satisfactory progress.

Entry requirements

  • Applicants must hold at least a PhD degree in any appropriate field
  • An outstanding research record commensurate with their level of experience as demonstrated, for example, through an outstanding thesis, publications, conference presentations, etc.
  • The ability to contribute significantly to the research environment at AIMS.
